Twitter is the Land of Opportunity for Businesses

When people ask me what the best tip is for their new business, or any business for that matter, the answer often surprises them: Twitter. It is still the only open cocktail party on the internet. Twitter has always been unique in that is it truly a social network and not solely a content pushing platform.

Twitter is still a marketer’s dream come true because it allows you to initiate a relationship with your customer. When it comes to cold sales and throwing right hooks, Twitter offers a special opportunity to directly connect with the people you want to reach. At any time, you can use Twitter’s search engine to find people who are talking about topics related to your business, even if only tangentially. Unlike other platforms, it’s the only place where you can jump into a conversation unannounced without seeming like a stalker.

This is from the Gary Vaynerchuck post TWITTER STILL HAS A MASSIVE BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUR COMPANY

Start Locally When Marketing

This is an excerpt from a post on Rescue a CEO which discusses how important it is to be hyper-focused before scaling out.

Many business owners become so fixated on growing large immediately that they forget about what’s in their backyard. Rather shooting for the moon, start pumping up your local connections and visibility. Be present in local events and start networking with community influencers to ensure everyone in your own community knows about you. By getting your community behind you, you can be sure that your brand will spread.

Remember, too, to think locally when it comes to the web. Be sure to have a proper local listing for your business so you can be easily found online when local customers are looking for your goods or services.

What Gurus Always Get Wrong About Blogging

This blog post from Gary Vaynerchuk discusses blogging, what the experts aren’t doing and what you can do to take advantage of the various blogging sites. Blogging isn’t dead. It’s just getting started.

If you write a blog, social media needs to be the gateway drug to your content and site.

Social networks, specifically Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest, should be treated as the stepping stones of content to drive to the aforementioned “home,” whether that’s a blog or media site or whatever.

Selling on Instagram

But, there is a way to right hook [sell] on Instagram that many people don’t think about enough. The link in your profile. So many people use this space as a place to merely post their website address. But, what if you put up a post saying “New sneakers for sale, link in profile”. Now this is getting interesting. Now you have a way to directly link to a point of purchase. And if that photo of the sneakers is a super sweet photo, that could be enough to get someone to click.

This is the only way to drive people out of Instagram. Links are not allowed in captions and the only place a link can live is in that space under your bio.

Own Your Domain

For entrepreneurs and business owners that are starting their business, one big thing that entrepreneurs can do is to purchase and own their domain (ex. www.yourdomain.com). Often business owners will use website builders and or sites like wordpress.com and won’t actually own their domain. Instead, they have URLs like www.yourdomain.wordpress.com or www.yourdomain.wix.com. Sometimes, the cost may seem like it’s a lot when a website builder packages their services but often the cost is around $10-$20 if you go to a registrar like Godaddy. Having and owning your domain looks more professional and it also ensures that you will “control” your website and its ranking on search engines.
